You'll need new logos. No, no, you NEED them. The game just isn't complete without them. And theis batch includes the new Empire State Amerks logo! Unzip the logos to your SOM\LOGO directory, launch the game and watch the women throw themselves at your feet. Again.

2007-08 PRESEASON FILES ARE READY
First you'll want the logos. They are not mandatory to use but they are super-cool and if you are remotely cool (read: you don't have a MySpace page) then you'll want these. Unzip the logos to your SOM\LOGO directory, launch the game and watch the women throw themselves at your feet.

Next another good-to-have is the player pictures. I haven't tried them so I cannot attest to their universal coolness but they came from Brian so, at a very minimum, they are Nebraska-cool. According to Brian, "Within the zip file, there are two folders, one for goalie images and one for skater images. Copy and paste out of these folders and into their respective directories - SOMH\PLAYERS\goalies and SOMH\PLAYERS\players. Also, there is an alias.txt file within the zip as well. This is to differentiate the two Alexandre Picard's in the set. Simply open the text file up, copy the two lines, open up your existing alias.txt file and append the lines to the end of what already exists on your copy."

Finally, here is the pre-season file. It is unlocked. The rosters are current as of newsletter 10.22 (August 12, 2007). Going forward and beginning now there is a different system to get the NSHL file into your game. Here's what you do. Download the file and save it wherever. It is not zipped. Launch the game, click on League--> Restore League, highlight the downloaded file, click Open then click OK. [Side note: if you want to back up a league, you just launch the game, highlight the league you want to back up, then click League--> Backup League.]

From the Constitution:
4.2. POSTSEASON
No player may play more playoff games than he played in the previous NHL regular
season. Goaltender fatigue is normal with the exception that a goaltender with a
fatigue rating of five or more may play in every game while they maintain a "hot
streak" subject to the restraints of maximum usage.
The only players that may appear in the NSHL postseason are those that have been
"carded" by the Strat-o-Matic game company; that is, either a regular card, or
an additional player card. "Computer-only" players can only appear in the
playoffs with approval of both the Commissioner and the opposing owner.
ALSO, PER THE COMMISSIONER: "During the playoff overtimes, the fourth line must be scheduled to play one shift before the overtime period is 3/4th complete. You must also play/rotate your three/four defensive lines equally, barring penalties."

Notes and reminders:
No player may play more playoff games than he played in the NHL regular season. Goaltender fatigue is treated as normal with the following exception, a goaltender with a fatigue of five or more may play in every game of the series, but is still under the restraint of maximum usage. No "computer-only" (uncarded) players may be used without the expressed written consent of the commissioner, both coaches, and Major League baseball.
IMPORTANT - the commish rolls for injuries after each game, so check with Doug for injuries before playing your next games.
Quoting from the Constitution: "During the playoff overtimes, the fourth line must be scheduled to play one shift before the overtime period is 3/4th complete. You must also play/rotate your three/four defensive lines equally, barring penalties."
With the game closed, please extract these files to your SOMH\DATA directory, answering 'Yes to All' if asked if you want to overwrite all files.

You don't need these either, but here are two alternative rink images you can use. In the SOMHK\DATA directory, there is a file called rink.bmp. Rename this file to rink_old.bmp. Unzip the two files in the zip to the SOMHK\DATA directory, and rename either to rink.bmp.
RINK_SOM.BMP is a shot of the old Strat Hockey board.
RINK_WALLPAPER.BMP is a nice replacement of the current rink file.

POST-GAME PROCEDURES
At the end of a game you'll see the box score. You must save this box score as once you close it, it cannot be retrieved otherwise. Click the Save button at the top of the box score and save the box score as a text file wherever you want. Then close the box score window. IF YOU DO NOT SAVE THE BOX SCORE, THE RESULT WILL NOT BE VALID, AND YOU WILL HAVE TO REPLAY THE GAME.
Go to your SOMH\EXPORT folder, find the export file, then send it (zipped preferably) and the box score (as a .txt file) to the NSHLGAMES mailing list which is nshlgames@yahoogroups.com as well as your opponent if you're unsure if he is subscribed to this list.
Have perspective, have fun!
PLAYER USAGE - per the Commissioner!
Note - A "shift" will refer to a three Action Card sequence.
* For NSHL regular-season games, teams are allowed to dress either:
a) Twelve forwards, six defensemen, and two goaltenders
b) Eleven forwards, seven defensemen, and two
goaltenders
For purposes of position determination, skaters will be considered to be at the
position (forward/defense) where they are primarily used in the Computer
Manager, at the Commissioner's discretion.
* Forwards may be scheduled for NO MORE than four even-strength shifts per
period.
* In the first and second period, defensemen may be scheduled for a maximum of
four even-strength shifts per period.
In the third period, defensemen may be scheduled for a maximum of six
even-strength shifts per period.
* All skaters (forwards and defensemen) must be scheduled for a minimum of four
even-strength shifts per regulation game (not including overtime). These shifts
must be scheduled within the first nine shifts of a period.
* A player may appear on (at most) one power-play unit and (at most) one
short-handed unit per game.
* A forward rated "POINT **" may play on either PP1 or PP2. A forward rated
"POINT *" may only play on PP2.
* A player may appear on (at most) one power-play unit and (at
most) one short-handed unit per game.
* No player may be scheduled for consecutive even-strength shifts.
* Since the Computer Manager reverts to PP1 and PK1 at the start of each period even if PP2 and PK2 haven't touched the ice, the home team will be allowed to do the same. This computer rule effectively replaces the option to "double-shift" one of your power play units.
